Yoga Mats

Too many options and not sure which one to choose? Here are some recommendations based on what you are looking for and your body structure!

Entry Level

If you want to try yoga but aren’t sure about investing too much money, yet still want a great mat, this is my recommendation! I use it myself, and it provides excellent stability while being durable and resistant to tearing. Plus, it has alignment lines to help you easily correct your posture!

If you want to take a yoga class on the way back from work or school, this foldable mat is the best option for you! Its material prevents you from slipping and its soft material protects your joints. Only downside is that foldable mat can be slippery than none-foldable mats, but this one is the best ones within the foldable mats I tried!

This is my favorite mat brand of all. I use their brand for mats and towel, but they never disappoints me. Their grip is the best and it gives you the maximum joint support. If you are getting into yoga and are willing to put a bit more money, this is the one! Sometimes, too poor to go cheap!!

Advanced Level

This is my personal favorite yoga mat. The difference from the previous one is that this one is thicker and gives you the ultimate support. It is a bit pricy, but the grip and support that gives you is speechless. You can actually feel more stable and safe that makes you brave enough to try a bit scary asana, such as arm stands!

A few points to consider when you are choosing your mat

  • Where do you most likely use the mat?
    - If at a studio, then maybe light weighted or foldable mat!
    - If at home, then thick and heavy one

  • What is your budget?
    - If you do not want to invest too much, then look for the material and texture of the surface. If the surface looks like this, it easily to get rubbed and tear.
    - If you are willing to spend more than$50, take a look at Manduka or Lululemon

  • What do you want from a mat?
    - If you know you tend to experience pain by your bone touching the floor, get 5mm or thicker mats
    - If this is not a problem, but you want a good grip, get a mat with Polyvinyl Chloride (Get a yoga towel if it is hot yoga as this material can be slippery when wet)

  • Do you have enough space to store?
    - If not, then get a foldable one or light weighted one
    - If yes, then go crazy!!!!

For hot yoga, you need a mat towel!!!

Yoga Towels

Entry Level

For mat towels, the most important thing is if it has non slip silicone grip on the back. This not only prevents the towel to move around, but also keeps you safe. This is one of the cheapest option, and there are more to it, but if you do not want to spend too much money, just ensure it has the non-slip grip on the back of the towel and you are good to go!

Do you want to have a cute towel while it works great? This option is a good choice for its design and functionality. Sometimes, cute towel has different length, so just ensure to check your mat and it fits with your mat length.
Design sometimes matters! This one has the cute design and the non-slip grip, so a bit more money, but it adds more fun!

Personally, I do not think it is needed to have both non-slip grip and the corner pocket most of the time, but if you know you will sweat and have a lot of standing or challenging asanas, this might be the way to go. It has the grip AND corner pockets, so it is impossible almost for the towels to move around! Just measure the length to fit with your mat:)

This is what I use and so far the best towel. It not only gives me the stability and safety, but it also absorb any liquid and dries out very quickly. This one costs a bit more than other options, but if you are getting into yoga more and know you are going to use it, it will last for a long time. It is also made of recycled plastic bottle so by purchasing this towel, you are helping the environment too!
